Replay every sentence until you nail it. Addy's Parrot is a free desktop app for practising English with any YouTube video — or any video on your computer. Everything runs on your own machine: no account, no ads, no tracking.

What's in 1.0

• Add YouTube links or import local video files — files never leave your computer.
• Subtitles generated locally with word-level timing (WhisperX) — no upload, no transcription server.
• Loop a sentence to shadow it — repeats until you stop, with 0.5× / 0.75× slow-down.
• Record your voice and play it back to compare your shadowing.
• Tap any word for the dictionary — pronunciation, meaning, and examples translated into your language.
• Save words & sentences and review them on an FSRS spaced-repetition schedule.
• 13 interface languages, with full right-to-left support for Arabic.
• Automatic tidy-up — videos untouched for 14 days and saved items not reviewed for 28 days are cleared automatically (re-add any time).
• Back up and restore your favorites and review progress.

First launch

The first run downloads the tools needed to generate subtitles (a local Python runtime, ffmpeg, and the WhisperX model). Keep an internet connection for that one-time setup; transcription works offline afterwards.

Installing

• macOS — separate builds for Apple Silicon (arm64) and Intel (x64).
• Windows — x64 installer (NSIS), or the portable .zip (just unzip and run, no installation needed).
